Freedom of Information (State of Selangor) Enactment 2011

Freedom of Information (State of Selangor) Enactment 2011 was formulated with the objective of enhancing the disclosure of information for public interest and providing opportunities for every individual to access information made by State Government Departments through applications submitted to the relevant Department.

This enactment was published on August 25, 2011 and is effective from March 5, 2013 as per the DYMM Sultan Selangor. Also effective on the same date are two (2) subsidiary laws made by the State Authority in support of these provisions of the Enactment, ( Freedom of Information Regulations ) ( Access to Information ) 2012 and State Information Agency Methods ( Selangor State) 2012.

Any members of the public and external organisations who wish to obtain any information from any State Government Department may do so by adhering to the following procedures:

  1. Completing the Application Form to Obtain Information as attached below;
  2. Submitting the Application Form to obtain completed Information by handover to the relevant Department together with a payment of RM12.00 (Malaysian Ringgit: Twelve Only), which is RM 2 for the application fee and RM10 for the non-refundable processing fee deposit.
  3. Information officers appointed for each department will process the submitted applications and provide a response within 30 days from the date of acknowledgement of the regular application or within seven (7) days from the date of acknowledgement of the application if it involves the life or freedom of an individual; and
  4. If the application is approved, the applicant must pay the remaining processing fee (if necessary) and will receive access to the requested information according to the appropriate access method; and
  5. In the event that the application is rejected, the applicant may submit an appeal to the State Information Agency within 21 days of receiving the decision.
