Freedom of Information (State of Selangor) Enactment 2011 was formulated with its objective to enhance the externalization of information for public interest and to provide opportunities for every individual to access information provided by the Departments of the State Government through an application submitted to the relevant departments. This enactment was gazetted on 25 August 2011 and came into force on March 5, 2013 with the consent of the Sultan of Selangor. Also with effect from the same date are two (2) subsidiary legislations made by the State Local Authorities to support the provisions of this Act, namely, the Freedom of Information (State of Selangor) (Access to Information) Regulations 2012 and State Information Board (State of Selangor) Rules 2012.
